Back in December I posted an idea at the Microsoft Classroom uservoice forum about Self enrollment into Microsoft Classroom courses. It did not get that much attention, so I came up with an idea today, and I gave it a try:
So this works exactly the way I expected it to work, as Microsoft classroom courses are basically nothing else than Office 365-groups. (Read my post Microsoft Classroom) I think that the workflow could be improved, as I am thinking about and overview page with all classroom courses and a student can request access to a chosen course. This would be the ideal solution for creating an online course environment within O365 for MOOCs.
As the Office Groups created by a Microsoft classroom course are always private (and you can not make them public as I have checked in the backend – another request coming!) the course teacher has to grant access. This could be seen as an advantage but for an authentic open course system I would love to have a full self enrollment into an existing course. Just imagine the possibilities.
So I do not know if the developers at Microsoft have anything similar on their mind, but I think this would be a great feature to make Office 365 a online course platform like edX or coursera. I will definitely have a deeper look into this, as it is crucial to me next upcoming project… 😉
